Studio Yukiko, Tess Smith-Roberts, Guap: Tickets now available for March’s Nicer Tuesdays!

Grab tickets for our second London event of the year and hear from some of the most impressive creatives working in illustration, design and even an AR-distributed magazine.

That time’s come around again! In what will be our third Nicer Tuesdays of the year (and second in London) we’ve got some amazing creatives lined up. As we fully set into 2024, and all the new year motivation starts to wear off, we’ve got a selection of inspiring talks that will stimulate your creativity into the spring months.

We’re thrilled to be welcoming Studio Yukiko to the Nicer Tuesdays stage. A highly esteemed creative agency out of Berlin, it has spent over a decade working in creative direction, art direction, brand strategy, graphic design and concept generation for commercial and cultural clients. With a surprising approach to the craft, the studio is known for experimental projects such as its logo design for Haus der Kulturen der Welt and a magazine for DoorDash. Also joining us in March is illustrator Tess Smith-Roberts, who will be taking us through her book Disaster Dates & Lucky Escapes as well as some other defining moments through her career, and the founders of Guap will be talking us through the media outlet’s nine-year journey showcasing the best of London’s diverse talent.

The event will take place on 5 March with doors opening at 6pm. As this is an 18+ event, please bring ID with you to the venue. If you are in need of disability access, please make yourself known to a member of the EartH team on the night or email [email protected] so we can arrange assistance. Carry on reading to find out more about our incredible line-up of speakers.

Studio Yukiko has broken ground with its disruptive visuals. Particularly revered for its print design – from posters to catalogues and books – the international team have developed a dynamic and almost surreal approach that can be seen in every project they take on. Throughout the years, the studio have also amassed a breadth of work with a particular client, Nike, producing everything from a customer activation and campaign for Jordan, to aegyo-inspired stickers as part of a Nike x Peggy Gou campaign that encouraged self-care during quarantine, and a campaign and box design for Nike Go Flyease – an accessible shoe for those who have difficulty with tying laces. Now its presence throughout the world of design is vast and sealed, we can’t wait to hear about the strategies behind it.

Who doesn’t think the world of dating is becoming increasingly weird? In 2020, Tess Smith-Roberts’ growing audience started to become particularly invested in her comics illustrating bad dates – experienced by herself and her own followers. After being prompted by a friend, the illustrator decided to start working on a book, Disaster Dates & Lucky Escapes, which was released last year. “It was such a leap going from four or five silly comic panels to a whole entire book,” she told us. With a new title under her belt and a growing world of anthropomorphic but familiar characters (everything from smiling bananas to sad loaves of bread) we can’t wait to hear about her increasingly feel-good oeuvre, that she’s preserved even through the most disastrous situations.

Guap are many things to London’s creative scene, but one word that can’t be missed is: essential. Founded in 2015, by Jide Adetunji and Ib Kamara, the magazine and outlet has become a reference point and home for fresh faces who otherwise go unrepresented in the industry. While breaking ground as the first magazine to use augmented reality to distribute content to its audience, in recent years, its mission to elevate underrepresented creatives has become ever more clear, with its Guap Gala event starting in 2022. Providing awards in categories such as best photographer and content creator of the year, the far-reaching event has seen winners such as Gabriel Moses and Munya Chawawa.
